Android Poker Apps To Run On Blackberry Playbook Tablet

By Sebastian Hawkes | February 15, 2011

Research In Motion (RIM) are rumoured to be working on software that will allow owners of their new Blackberry Playbook tablet to run Android apps from Google’s Android Market.  The Blackberry Playbook, which will be released later this year, is RIM’s answer to the Apple iPad (and iPad 2) and Android powered tablets like the Motorola Xoom and the HP TouchPad.

Blackberry support for Android Market apps would be a welcome development for online poker players.  Google’s Android Market currently boasts over 135,000 apps, almost 7 times the number currently available from the Blackberry App World.

Support for Android Apps would mean owners of the new Blackberry tablet could enoy a few hands of Rush Poker via the Full Tilt Android poker app.  The Rush Poker Mobile app is not currently available on the iPad due to Apple’s refusal to approve real money gambling apps in the United States.

If these rumours are to be believed, it means the Blackberry Playbook Tablet will also be able to run apps from poker rooms such as Ladbrokes Poker, 32 Red Poker, Mansion 88 and PokerTime, when the Microgaming Network release their own Android Poker app in early 2011.

Allowing Android apps run on the Blackberry Table OS would be a very shrewd move by RIM, as it would make the new tablet very attractive to the legion of online poker players who are frustrated by the lack for real money poker apps for the iPad.
