Microgaming Prepare To Launch Android Poker App In 2011
By Samantha Lambert | January 27, 2011
Microgaming look set to become the next poker network to join the mobile poker revolution. Hot on the heels of last weeks Bwin iPhone poker announcement, Microgaming have revealed that they will be launching their own real money Android poker app in the first quarter of 2011.
The new Android poker app will be available to all sites on the Microgaming Network, which currently operates over 34 different poker rooms, including: Ladbrokes Poker, Mansion88, Betway and 32Red Poker.
Like Full Tilt’s Rush Poker Mobile app, the Microgaming app will also require Android devices to be running Froyo 2.2 or later (Samsung Galaxy tablets / HTC Desire smartphones).
Although a beta version of the new poker app hasn’t been released yet, Microgaming have been demoing its capabilities this week at the International Casino Exibition in London.
Despite Bwin’s decision to launch an iPhone poker app, Android looks set to become the smartphone platform of choice for mobile poker apps due to its open nature. Even though the Rush Poker Mobile app was removed from the Android Market late last year, Full Tilt poker players were still able to download the app directly from the Full Tilt website. This is not possible on the iPhone, where apps can only be downloaded from the iTunes App Store, which makes developing iPhone poker apps a big gamble for online poker rooms.
