Heads Up: Hold'em HD - iPad App Review
Heads Up: Holdem HD is a free 1-on-1 Texas Hold'em app for the iPad.
- The 1 Player option allows you to play against an AI opponent. There are several AI personalities to choose from, each with their own strategies and styles of play, ranging from careful to aggressive
- The 2 Player option allows you to play against a friend, either by connecting 2 devices wirelessly (via bluetooth) or by sharing the iPad like a chessboard
- You can choose whether you’d like to use real world chips and have Heads Up: Hold'em just deal the cards, or opt to use the apps virtual chips
- Starting stacks, blinds, etc. can be easily configured via the "Settings"
- Heads Up: Hold'em HD has been completely redesigned to take advantage of the iPads larger screen. The graphics are really impressive and look great on the iPad’s high definition screen.
- Rather than relying on Check, Raise or Fold buttons to control the game, the iPad's touch screen is used to create a realistic and intuitive playing environment. For example, to fold, simply slide your cards to your opponents side of the screen, and to place a bet, just push your pile of virtual chips into the betting circle.
- For 2 player games there is an "Anti-Cheat Peek Counter" option which shows how many times the cards have been exposed.
- Be careful not to accidentely touch the “Buy Full” button as it will upgrade you to the full version ($4.99) without asking for a confirmation.
- There is no full table option that allows you to play against multiple opponents.
Overall, this is an above average heads up poker app that gives you an idea of the full functionality of the iPad. The graphics really are High Definition and the gameplay is both intuitive and realistic. Best of all, Heads Up: Hold’em HD is free.
