Senator Calls For Ban On iPhone & iPad Poker Apps
By Kyle Bradshaw | April 27, 2010
Nick Xenophon, an Australian Senator, has called for a ban on iPhone and iPad poker applications that children can play for fake gambling money. Xenophon is opposed to iPhone / iPad apps that can be downloaded for free and which mimic the operation of poker machines commonly found in pubs and hotels across Australia.
"We already have a big enough gambling problem in this country and there's no doubt this will fuel gambling addiction," said the South Australian Sesnator. "Kids can become poker machine experts years before they are legally allowed to set eyes on a real machine."
The opposition Senator is particularly annoyed that there is no age restriction on these Apple apps, although some do come with a recommend age description of 12. Xenophon believes that theses apps will give children the impression that poker machines can be a source of income in the future.
Xenophon acknowledges that banning the iPhone and iPad apps outright might not be possible, however, he still intends to push for a ban on these poker apps being made available to children.
