The Best iPad, Android & iPhone Poker Apps 2011

By Kyle Bradshaw | December 21, 2011

For those of us who live outside the United States, 2011 has been a pretty good year for mobile poker.  A number of real money poker apps have been released for iPhones, iPads, Androids and even BlackBerrys.  This time last year Switch Poker was the only iPhone poker app, while Android users had to content themselves with only the Rush Poker Mobile app.

Even though Rush Poker Mobile has how gone to the great poker app graveyard in the sky, a number of mobile poker games have appeared to take its place.  In this article we’d like to take a brief look back at the years best real money poker apps.

January 2011 was the month that Apple finally gave the greenlight for an App Store real money poker app.  Bwin Poker for iPhones became the world’s first native poker app when it was released in both the Austrian and United Kingdom App Stores.  It was later made available from both the Hungarian and Portuguese App Stores.

In June 2011, Full Tilt Poker become the first major poker network to release a Texas Hold’em app for iOS devices, such as the iPhone and iPad.  Unfortunatley, they subsequently lost their gambling license which saw the withdrawal of both versions of the Rush Poker Mobile app.

In July 2011, Bwin introduced their Bwin Android poker app, which was a replica of their popular iPhone app.  Following a change in Google policy that restricted gambling apps from being featured in the Android Market, the Bwin Android apk file was made available for download directly from the Bwin website.

Terminal Poker filled the gap left behind by Full Tilt, when they released a high-speed mobile poker game similar to Rush Poker in July 2011.  The Terminal Poker app was a cross platform web app that could be played from the browser of either an iPhone, iPad or Android device.

October saw the release of first real money poker app that was compatible with BlackBerry smartphones as well as Android and iPhones.  mFortune Texas Hold’em is a web based poker that works on 99% of phones, including older phones running the Symbian OS.

The Microgaming Network joined the mobile poker party in late October when Unibet released their long awaited Android poker client.  A number poker room on the Microgaming Network are expected to adopt the poker app in 2012.

One of the biggest news stories of the year was the release of the PokerStars iPhone app.  PokerStars took their first tentative steps into the world of mobile poker in November 2011 when their iPhone app appeared in the Italian app store.  The app is expected to be released across Europe in 2012, although PokerStars are remaining tight lipped on an exact schedule.

A plethora of new poker apps are expected to be released for Androids, iPhones and iPads in 2012, from poker giants such as Titan Poker, Betfair Poker, Paddy Power, William Hill and more.  Please check back regularly for all the latest mobile poker news.
